Quote of the "month"

October 2006

"I still cry everyday," she says softly. "I think about Mary all the time. We've been to all these places with her," she says looking around the venue in which we're sitting. "Now we have to establish new memories without her and it's really hard."

"This album is many things, but it is mainly us turning our backs to the non-life that might be death or to depression turning your back to that. Not blocking it out because sadness is there and there are things that have happened that can take a long time to heal. It's not denial but certainly looking forward."

"Once you're in this process there is no going back. And there is no point anyway." - Laetitia Sadier, on recording the album Margerine Eclipse following the death of fellow Stereolab member Mary Hansen, from Umbrella Music interview, 8 May 2004.

Since it's too much work to actually update my website on anything even remotely considered a regular basis, I have decided to try setting up the front page as a weblog, so as to encourage actual frequent updates. We'll see if it works.

The most interesting thing I have to say right now is that my back is sore from spending two-and-a-half hours yesterday shoveling snow. The whole exciting saga included going down the hardware store to buy a new shovel, shoveling the walk (no big deal here, really) and shoveling half the driveway (ugh). Then also going out to buy a gallon of gas and some gas-line antifreeze because my fuel line froze. I should explain, for those who don't know, that we have three cars, which is one too many. My girlfriend has one of those Mini Coopers, I have an ancient (1985) Ford LTD with no heat (but which now has four working power windows which is three more than what it had this Spring, two more than it had last week and one more than when I got it in 1999). We also have a '90 Chrysler Lebaron, which is for moving largish things and driving in the snow.

Since I didn't know abou the impending blizzard, I left the Mini out on the street and had the Ford and the Lebaron in the driveway. My task was to get the two cars out of the driveway and the Mini into the garage. First I had to get the Ford started, which involved the gallon of gas, the gas-line antifreeze and some starting fluid. Eventually I got it going and somehow managed to power it out of the driveway, which was only about a quarter shoveled at that point. Then I got stuck in a snowbank trying to park on the street because the city did a really lousy job of plowing our block. I dug myself a parking space, pulled out the Lebaron and moved the Mini into the garage. I did a bit more shoveling, so I could get that rear-wheel drive Ford back into the driveway, which was somewhat successful.

Later on, I went to my brother's place to watch the Flyers game (Flyers 5, Islanders 1 - goals by John LeClair, Mark Recchi, Donald Brashear, Simon Gagne and Justin Williams, the lone Islander goal was netted by Adrian Aucoin) and had a hell of a time getting the Ford back out of the driveway. I think it's going to be the street car this Winter. Of course, if we had a real driveway, we wouldn't have these problems. But what should I expect from a landlord who hasn't even updated the outlets in his building since the 1950's?

Welcome to NineNinjas.com. We hope you will enjoy your stay. Right now we're moving some things around, but we'll have it all sorted out soon.
