Quote of the "month"

October 2006

"I still cry everyday," she says softly. "I think about Mary all the time. We've been to all these places with her," she says looking around the venue in which we're sitting. "Now we have to establish new memories without her and it's really hard."

"This album is many things, but it is mainly us turning our backs to the non-life that might be death or to depression turning your back to that. Not blocking it out because sadness is there and there are things that have happened that can take a long time to heal. It's not denial but certainly looking forward."

"Once you're in this process there is no going back. And there is no point anyway." - Laetitia Sadier, on recording the album Margerine Eclipse following the death of fellow Stereolab member Mary Hansen, from Umbrella Music interview, 8 May 2004.

Things overheard at an Indian wedding
"I don't know. As far as I know, we just have to do everything he says, then we're married."
"You know it's a good wedding when you set off the smoke detectors."
"Have you ever been to one of these before? They're not all like this."
"It smells like burning Slim Jims."
"No, it smells like the fake smoke flavor of Slim Jims. I've never smelled smoke that actually smelled like that before."

Back... and better than ever?
The site's back after a week of absence. I had to suddenly and unexpectedly change hosting services. Enough said. Let the updates commence!

I've already upgraded the design slightly and made some changes to the Fink Squad site. That's not quite finished and some of the pages are quite ugly at the moment. I've converted over a bunch of more things for the writing section. I'll add them to the site later tonight or tomorrow. I've been giving my scanner a workout and so there should be some better photos up here in a short time.

I'm also working on a brand new site design, etc. etc. I'll keep updating this one in the meantime, though, as that one won't be ready for a good bit yet. In fact, I'm guessing probably not until graduation.

It's too bad I have to miss out on NaNoWriMo this year. Spending last November writing a novel (ok, memoir, really) was great fun and a really good writing exercise. It's just not happening this year because of my work and school schedule. In December, however, I will have completed my masters' degree and so next year I should be in better shape to compete again.

In the meantime, though, there's always NaNoEdMo in March. I haven't looked at the thing since I finished it last year. Perhaps it's about time I did. Perhaps some day I'll even post it. Once my lawyers have had a look at it, anyway. I may have to change more names to protect the guilty first...

Welcome to NineNinjas.com. We hope you will enjoy your stay. Right now we're moving some things around, but we'll have it all sorted out soon.
